Northumbria University

Sarah Collins is a PhD student at Northumbria University, with interests in urban history of the long-eighteenth century. Her thesis combines her background in landscape archaeology and GIS with landscape history to produce a comparative understanding of urban space in the British-Atlantic, with particular focus on Newcastle upon Tyne and Charleston, South Carolina. Sarah has formerly worked for the McCord Centre at Newcastle University, the University of York, and Norfolk County Council. Her interests include historic maps, trade directories and mercantile communities. She is particularly drawn to the tensions that are found between historic ideals and reality.
